Speaking at a youth summit, the Prime Minister said it was better to ignore US President Trump's derogatory comments than to respond.
In early December 2025, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre responded to derogatory remarks made by US President Donald Trump about Somalia and Somali immigrants, saying Mogadishu had no interest in turning the comments into a political confrontation.
Speaking at the Sixth Youth Leadership and Innovation Summit 2025, the Prime Minister said 'it is easier to ignore President Donald Trump than to respond and give meaning to his statements,' noting that Trump had also made negative remarks about other countries including Nigeria and South Africa.
'Sometimes there are things you simply let pass,' he said, framing restraint as the more dignified response while Somali officials defended the country's resilience.
