MOGADISHU, SOMALIA — The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hamza Abdi Barre, today officially opened the National Tourism Conference, hosted by the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.
Held at a resort on the outskirts of Mogadishu and showcasing the country’s tourism assets, the conference attracted hundreds of residents from the capital.
Prime Minister Hamza spoke about the potential of Somalia’s tourism sector, noting that the sector can contribute significant revenue to the national economy if the country adopts appropriate standards and puts in place the necessary human capital and required skills.
His Excellency Prime Minister Hamza commended the private sector and investors for their efforts to promote and develop Somalia’s tourism sector, particularly in the country’s coastal areas.
Turning to other national issues, the Prime Minister addressed the importance of national unity and sovereignty. He said that actions by some politicians, including sending a letter to the United Nations, are damaging to the country’s unity and sovereignty.
“Unity is the backbone of every society. It transcends the political differences that may sometimes exist. Without unity, we will become an easy target for our enemies. Unity is what we inherited from previous generations, who paid for it with their blood to protect it,” said Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.
