Hamza Abdi Barre is a Somali politician who has served as Prime Minister of Somalia since 25 June 2022, when he was appointed by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and endorsed by parliament. Born around 1972/1973 in the Somali Region, he studied at the University of Science and Technology in Yemen and the International Islamic University Malaysia. Before becoming prime minister he worked as an educator and held several government roles, including secretary-general of the Union for Peace and Development Party.

He brings over 15 years of experience in government and international organizations, having previously served as Deputy National Security Advisor and as Chief of Staff to the President of Somalia.

Working closely with the Permanent Secretary, he plays a key role in managing executive government operations, spearheading institutional and administrative reforms, and enhancing policy coordination across federal ministries.
