Prime Minister Inaugurates Somalia Internet Governance Forum 2025

On 4 November 2025, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre inaugurated the Somalia Internet Governance Forum 2025 (SIGF 2025) in Mogadishu, marking the third annual edition organized by the National Communications Authority (NCA).The two-day forum, held 4-5 November, focused on digital identity, local innovation, Somali language preservation, artificial intelligence, and data governance. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of national unity and a collaborative multistakeholder governance model to create a unified digital policy.Describing the internet as 'the backbone of national development,' Barre called on internet companies to ensure fair access and urged Somalia to align with international standards governing online activity to safeguard citizens' rights.
